Are you thinking about getting healthier? Maybe you have some lingering New Year's resolutions that still have some life in them. We all know that change requires action, but that action rarely yields results without involving lots of thinking and planning. And no, wishful thinking does not count.You didn't lose 10 pounds eating potato chips and ice cream last year, and you won't manage it this year either. But really understanding what you want, why you want it and how to achieve it, giving all of that lots of thought, that is powerful.  That's a starting block for success.

Spotlight

You don't need to be vegan to buy into the benefits of Nutritional Yeast. Fat-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, gluten-free it is full of protein, B vitamins, iron, zinc, selenium and manganese. It is anti-inflammatory and supports our immune response to bacterial infections. Studies have also shown nutritional yeast to combat brittle nails, hair loss, acne and seasonal allergies.

Practice this

Eliminate all oils from your diet. This seems like a drastic and difficult change, but in reality is it easy and it results in tremendous health benefits.  No oils are good for us. They are highly calorific, contain few to no nutrients, are highly inflammatory and damage our arteries.  This includes the super successfully marketed olive oil and coconut oil.  All oils should go.  Just like that - saute your food in water or vegetable broth, use vinegar based salad dressings, use vinegar and spices to roast your vegetables.  Get your fat and nutrients from the unprocessed, whole food. Eat the olive!  There is more info on why olive oil cannot be considered a health food here -  https://www.thenutritionpractice.org/olive-oil

Recipe

This Roasted Cauliflower, Chickpea and Arugula Salad made for a delicious dinner this week.  Left out the olive oil (of course!) and subbed pumpkin seeds for the pine nuts (only because I didn't have any) -https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/roasted-cauliflower-chickpea-arugula-salad/#tasty-recipes-62036
